About Us

GSL is a well-established privately owned company based in Hornby, who for over 27 years have been providing Grounds Maintenance, Civil Construction and Landscaping services in and around Canterbury.

Our Civil Construction Team is growing its project repertoire and capacity having established a reputation for successfully delivered projects for earthworks, drainage, roading, sports fields and the construction of stormwater treatment facilities, waterway enhancements and drainage improvements.

Our Open Spaces division offers a diverse range of services including roadside mowing, chemical spraying, pest plant control, landscaping, mass native planting and hydro seeding, as well as high amenity sports turf maintenance. We provide traffic management for NZTA and local authority contracts and roading maintenance through NZTA’s NOC maintenance contracts.

All GSL divisions are supported by our in-house Traffic Management Services, an extensive Mechanical Workshop and access to our NZQA accredited Training Academy and Workplace Training that ensure we provide a comprehensive project solution with high-quality outcomes for our clients.

The Opportunity

We're on the lookout for an experienced Surveyor to join our high-performing civil construction team in Christchurch. As a Surveyor you will plan, manage and provide reporting on all aspects of land surveying using specialised surveying instruments and equipment. This includes the compilation and delivery of engineering surveys, volume calculations, site set out. You will complete GPS Set Out, load Machine Control Survey Data and be experienced using CAD software such as 12d.

What you’ll be doing:
You will be kept busy over a variety of sites and be familiar with working in a civil construction, earthworks or roading environment. You will work closely with our Project Managers and Site Engineers to review drawings, inspect sites, planning and scheduling, temporary works design and providing commentary on design aspects. Other stakeholders that you will liaise with will be clients, consultants, sub-contractors and other operational team members, communicating on technical matters between all parties.

You will play an important part in our large-scale earthwork and civil construction projects and be passionate about your work that positively impacts the environment and the city you live in. What You'll Bring

· Relevant tertiary qualification, such as Bachelor of Surveying or other civil engineering and surveying qualification preferred
· 3+ years Surveyor experience in civil construction, roading or earthworks environments
· Licensed to operate a Drone with RPAS Flight Management Certification
· 3+ years proven practical experience with GIS systems and GPS surveying in NZ, Australia or UK preferred
· Understanding of the resource consent process and government or council rules around land use and modification
· Solid experience with GPS machine control, including 12D and Civil 3D modelling (Leica brand preferable), CAD set out and as-built processing and volumes
· Advanced computer literacy including current Microsoft Office and 365 products
· Strong leadership and interpersonal skills that build a positive work environment
· A full NZ Driver License essential, Class 2 Driver License with WTR an advantage
