GSL is a proudly 100% New Zealand privately owned company operating from our Head Office in Hornby, Christchurch for the past 27 years, providing Grounds Maintenance, Civil Construction and Landscaping services in and around Canterbury.
We have been growing our civil construction project repertoire and capacity having established a reputation for successfully delivering projects in earthworks, sub-divisions, drainage, roading, sports fields and the construction of stormwater treatment facilities, waterway enhancements and drainage improvements.
The Opportunity
Grounds & Services (GSL) is growing and we’re looking for an exceptional Senior Project Manager to lead civil construction projects and help shape the future of our business.
This is a newly created role designed to increase capability within our senior leadership team. It offers the rare opportunity to lead, influence and deliver civil construction projects across Canterbury and beyond. You’ll bring your deep technical knowledge, leadership capability, and commercial insight to strengthen our senior management team and help drive growth across our business.
What you’ll be doing
Reporting to the General Manager, you will provide senior leadership across the full project lifecycle, from planning and design through to execution, delivery and close-out. You will oversee multiple concurrent civil projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget and to the highest standards of quality, safety and compliance.
You will lead Site Managers and Site Engineers, drive commercial performance, manage key client and supplier relationships and play a critical role in business development and strategic planning.
This is a role for a strategic and decisive leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, balances innovation with structure, and brings technical, commercial and people leadership excellence.
What You'll Bring
You are a structured, confident and commercially astute leader with strong technical expertise and a passion for developing people and improving systems. You remain composed under pressure, communicate effectively at all levels and bring both strategic insight and hands-on practical capability.
You’ll bring:
• A Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or similar.
• 10+ years’ civil construction experience, including 5+ years in a senior project leadership role.
• Proven experience in drainage, concrete, structures, roading or subdivisions preferred.
• Strong knowledge of NZS3910, contract management, resourcing and commercial project controls.
• Advanced skills in Microsoft 365 apps, including MS Project
