About Us

GSL is a proudly 100% New Zealand privately owned company operating from our Head Office in Hornby, Christchurch for the past 27 years, providing Grounds Maintenance, Civil Construction and Landscaping services in and around Canterbury.
We offer a range of services, including mowing services, hydro seeding, landscaping, sports turf maintenance, spraying and pest plant control. Our Turf Management team maintain high profile sports turf facilities in the Canterbury region.
We have been growing our civil construction project repertoire and capacity having established a reputation for successfully delivering projects in earthworks, sub-divisions, drainage, roading, sports fields and the construction of stormwater treatment facilities, waterway enhancements and drainage improvements.

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Head Groundsperson to lead the delivery of high-quality turf management and irrigation services across sports fields, high-profile sites and civil construction projects.
This is a hands-on leadership role where you’ll be responsible for ensuring all turf, irrigation and fertilising work is completed on time, to specification and aligned with industry best practice. You’ll also play a key role in leading and developing a small, capable team.
You will act as the key point of contact for clients on site, providing regular updates on progress to stakeholders. You will also champion a strong health and safety culture, ensuring equipment is used safely and maintained to a high standard.

What You'll Bring

You bring 5+ years’ proven experience in turf and irrigation management, along with:
• Experience interpreting turf, irrigation, or landscaping plans
• Strong working knowledge of turf equipment and industry practices
• Proven ability to lead teams and deliver work programmes
• Familiarity with New Zealand standards and Health & Safety requirements
• NZ Level 4 qualification (or equivalent) in Turf Management
• Full NZ Driver’s Licence, with Class 2 and WTR preferred
• Growsafe Certificate (or willingness to obtain)
• ITO Assessor qualification (desirable)
• Flexibility and adaptability to seasonal demands
